HMAS Newcastle

HMAS Newcastle enters Port Hunter for her final port of call to the city of Newcastle.

HMAS Newcastle (FFG 06), named for the city of Newcastle, New South Wales, the largest provincial city in Australia is one of four Adelaide Class Guided Missile Frigates (FFG) in service with the Royal Australian Navy. A long-range escort vessel capable of air defence, surface and undersea warfare, surveillance, reconnaissance and interdiction. The last ship of the class to be constructed, HMAS Newcastle entered service in 1993.

After more than 25 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy, HMAS Newcastle will decommission at Garden Island, Fleet Base East, Sydney on Sunday, 30 June 2019.

HMAS Newcastle completed her final port of call to the city of Newcastle today.

To mark the end of the city’s 26-year relationship, the HMAS Newcastle company will exercise its Right of Freedom of Entry to the city of Newcastle at a ceremony and march through the streets.
